SKIPINNISH ANNOUNCES SPECIAL SUMMER SHOW IN STIRLING’S CITY PARK
Band to perform in Big Top
Skipinnish has today (Tuesday 19th November 2019) announced that it will headline a special Summer show, Under Canvas, in a Big Top in Stirling’s City Park on Saturday 22nd August 2020.
From humble beginnings performing in pubs, clubs and village halls in 1999, the rise of Skipinnish over recent years has been astounding. The band has created a trademark mix of self-penned Celtic songs and strong tune sets along with now classic anthems such as Walking on the Waves, The Island, Alive and Western Ocean. The result has been a huge wave of popularity with sell-out shows across the country’s most prestigious venues, chart hits and an ever-growing home and international fan base.
Skipinnish will be joined through the afternoon and evening in Stirling by a host of special guests, including the renowned Scottish rock band, Big Country; the three-time BRIT award winning artist, Eddi Reader; and the up-and-coming band from Stornoway, Peat and Diesel, who recently have hit the Scottish music scene like a Hebridean storm! Gates open at 3pm on Saturday 22nd August and more artists will be announced closer to the show.
And, for those fans looking to make a weekend out of it, organisers are offering camping tickets, available for the Friday and Saturday nights (21st and 22nd August). The dedicated area will be in City Park, close to the music arena, and for those camping on the Friday night, a special party is being hosted.
Skipinnish’s co-founder, Angus MacPhail, said:
“This will be the biggest Skipinnish gig yet and we are very, very excited! The prospect of performing under the majesty of Stirling Castle, to the biggest gathering ever of our amazing fans, is incredible. The last few years have felt like we are living in a dream, with more fans and bigger gigs in more exciting venues than we ever could have imagined. Stirling on the 22nd of August 2020 will be the highpoint of our musical voyage so far! We cannot wait!!”
Concert promoter, LCC Live, which hosted Runrig’s The Last Dance at City Park in 2018, is organising Skipinnish’s Stirling show. Its Event Manager, Carlie Davidson, said:
“We’re thrilled to be bringing Skipinnish and their special guests to Stirling’s City Park for a special afternoon and evening of live music in the Big Top. Skipinnish’s live performances are always out of this world, and we know that those attending will have a great night.
“In addition, for those fans wanting to make a weekend out of it, we are offering the opportunity to camp before and after the concert, in a dedicated camping area close to the music arena. It is going to be a great weekend in Stirling, so please come along and join us.”

3. Big Country was originally formed in 1981 by Stuart Adamson and Bruce Watson. Initially driven by a shared vision of widescreen guitar melody, harmony and lyric, the classic Big Country sound was further enhanced by the arrival of drummer Mark Brzezicki and bass player Tony Butler. This is the Big Country that recorded the classic debut album The Crossing in 1983.
Fields of Fire, Chance and In a Big Country broke the band to a worldwide audience, and the run of success continued throughout the 1980s with the release of Wonderland and the second album Steeltown, which debuted at number one in the UK. In 1985, Big Country appeared at Live Aid, and further albums followed in to the 1990s, including Buffalo Skinners and Why the Long Face.
The line-up has changed slightly over the years, but the band continues to do what it’s always done – produce great hits and tour the world.
4. Celebrating 40 years as a live performer, Eddi Reader has effortlessly developed into one of popular music’s most thrilling and affecting performers. Though first brought into the limelight as front woman for Fairground Attraction, who’s number one single, Perfect topped the British charts, it is Eddi’s subsequent albums that have signaled her ability to assimilate different musical styles and make them her own. In 2019 Eddi released her 10th solo venture, Cavalier. Co-produced by Eddi and her husband, John Douglas (Trashcan Sinatras) it incorporates both contemporary and traditional songs showcasing her wide-ranging artistry and marks a new creative peak in her already prestigious career.
5. Peat & Diesel are from Lewis in Stornoway and are led by frontman Calum ‘Boydie’ Macleod on vocals and guitar; Uilleam ‘Uilly’ Macleod is on drums; and Innes ‘G’ Scott plays the accordion. Uptown Fank is Peat & Diesel’s debut album.
